February marked the beginning of the Old Main remodeling project, scheduled to be completed by fall. Although some departments moved to temporary locations during the remodeling, the nursing and education departments moved into a more permanent home, Mattson Hall, located west of the Schaefer Fine Arts Center-Music Wing, next to Prairie View Residence Hall. The building is named after Gustavus President P.A. Mattson (1904-1911), who was president during the time when the education department was added to the College’s curriculum. Other proposed changes in the Gustavus long-range “Campus Framework Plan” include relocation of the football stadium, a new academic building on the West Mall, a wind-turbine development zone, a new social science center, and potential senior citizen housing sites. Architectural drawings and more complete descriptions of these proposed changes are available online at Campus Framework. In the near future, photographs of current building projects will be online.
