Honors Day 2014 will be held on Saturday, May 3. Honors Day is a celebration of student academic achievement and parents are encouraged to join their student on campus. The schedule for the day is as follows:
9:30 a.m., Coffee Reception, Johns Courtyard/Courtyard Cafe
10 a.m. -5 p.m., Books in Bloom Exhibition, Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library
10:30 a.m., Honors Convocation, Christ Chapel
1 p.m., Communication Studies Honors Reception, Torrey Atrium in Beck Hall
1 – 6 p.m., Senior Studio Art Majors’ Exhibition, Hillstrom Museum of Art
1:30 p.m., Senior Honors Recital, Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall in Schaefer Fine Arts Center
1:30 – 3 p.m., Political Science Research Symposium, Old Main Second Floor
8:00 p.m., Grace: The Gustavus Dance Company in Concert, Anderson Theatre in Schaefer Fine Arts Center
The weekend also includes the Celebration of Creative Inquiry, which is open to the public on Friday, May 2 from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. This event is a campus-wide forum to publicly share the creative inquiry of students from Gustavus Adolphus College. It features student poster presentations (or other similar presentations as appropriate). “Creative inquiry” is an intentionally broad term that encompasses research and scholarship including, in the arts, exhibits or performances.
On Sunday, May 4, the Night of Distinction will be held at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Night of Distinction, in its third year, honors numerous students who have contributed co-curricular leadership and service at Gustavus. Offices which present awards include Campus Activities, Residential Life, the Center for Servant Leadership, the Diversity Center, and the Dean of Students Office, among others.
