Each Summer, incoming Gustavus students are asked to complete a Reading in Common that will be discussed during New Student Orientation and for some students during their First Term Seminar course. The Reading in Common selection for 2005-2006 is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. In his debut novel, Hosseini “manages to provide an educational and eye-opening account of a country’s political turmoil–in this case, Afghanistan–while also developing characters whose heartbreaking struggles and emotional triumphs resonate with readers.” More information about the book and author is available at Kite Runner. This program is in it’s sixth year at Gustavus and many upperclass students and Gustavus employees chose to read the book as well. Feel free to join us in this common Gustavus experience.
