Cover Mississippi Blanket Drive Posted on July 1st, 2006 by

When two Gustavus seniors returned from doing hurricane relief work in Mississippi in January, they knew they had to do more. So they organized a collection effort for blankets and quilts to aid people in southern Mississippi. The project collected an estimated 70,000 square feet of blankets and towels exceeding their goal of 48,000 square feet (Mississippi is approximately 48,000 square miles) to “Cover Mississippi.”
When the students told their story at the College’s annual meeting of the Association of Congregations and explained that the original transportation for the blankets fell through, Bob and Anne (’62) Sorensen volunteered to rent a truck and make the delivery to Ocean Springs, Miss.
