Fraternity/Sorority Pledging Posted on September 14th, 2012 by

The pledge period for the Gustavus Greek system occurs in September and October. There are five fraternities and six sororities on campus, four of which are national affiliates. The Greek tradition at Gustavus dates back more than 100 years. Students and advisers have worked hard during this past year to develop the pledge period and activities to offer experiences that are rewarding and responsible for all participants. Only students with at least sophomore academic status and who meet a minimum grade point average requirement are eligible to pledge. The Greeks each year are active in planning educational, social, and community service projects for their members and the campus.  Just recently, The website BestCollegesOnline.comreleased its list of the top 10 colleges and universities that “Get Greek Life Right.” Gustavus Adolphus College and its Greek organizations were ranked No. 6 on the list.

The website said it chose schools where fraternities and sororities are “tightly regulated, inclusive, and focus on academics and social work…and are positive both for students and for the campus as a whole.”

Each fall approximately 200 students “pledge” (join) a Greek organization.  If you have any questions about this process please contact Blair Whitney, Graduate Assistant for Greek Life, at bwhitney@gustavus.edu.
