Indulge me for just a moment for a pseudo-personal post. I wanted to share some resources that moms (and maybe dads too, if you don’t mind a little bit of sappiness) might enjoy. I have authored this blog for a number of years now and have kept it “all business.” But I can’t resist every year at this time thinking about the process of sending your child to Gustavus, and the myriad of emotions that are a part of that process. I have three daughters myself, and in early September my youngest will go off to Kindergarten. She is absolutely psyched on the outside, like many of your Gusties-to-be are feeling right now. I can’t help but feel an intuition that says that on the inside, she might just have some fears and doubts and insecurities. Just like yours. And that no matter how exciting it all is, when the actual parting takes place – the “you’re on your own now” parting, there will be tears – for sure on my part if not on hers too. This fall I am entering a new stage of parenting life, as are you.
I believe you’d tell me, because I’ve heard it many times before, that for a parent it seems like the blink of an eye between the start of Kindergarten and the start of college, and you wonder how and when it all happened. I hope you honor and take care of yourself and your own needs during this time of transition.
